A #CampBondfire Experience

We've been planning to get our kiddos together for some fun all summer. Between the two of us, we have eight kids under eight, and nothing screams "fun" like getting eight kids under eight under one roof for a play date! Coordinating schedules during a jam packed summer has proved to be a challenge and before you know it the kids will be starting school and the summer sunshine will fade. However, when Janene told me that her twins have never had a campfire roasted smore, I knew there was no better time to make a get together happen.

National S'mores Day is celebrated on August 10th. You know . . . S'mores!  Marshmallows, Chocolate and Graham Crackers heated to perfection and enjoyed in sticky, gooey, heavenly bites!  A little S'More trivia - Did you know that the first recorded recipe for a S'More can be found in the 1927 Girl Scout Handbook - Tramping and Trailing with Girl Scouts?

We took advantage of this national celebration and decided to get together this past weekend around a fire and make some unforgettable summer memories while sharing some firsts together. We planned a HERSHEY'S CAMP BONDFIRE experience and our kids could not wait!

But when the clouds began to roll in on Saturday, we started to get nervous...

Would our campfire be rained out?

As Janene and I shared worried glances and whispered about a change in plans (you actually CAN make a S'More inside) , our kids sprang into action and put a plan into motion to save the day.

Do we have any paper mom? Ava asked.

Could we borrow the scissors? Jordan requested.

Do you have any tape? Danika wondered aloud.

Before we knew it, Nate had organized all the kids in my entry and they were working like busy bees--each with their own job.  They were working together and "building a fire"--but they were doing so much more than that - our children were bonding!

My heart was melting like a square of Hershey's chocolate over a toasted marshmallow. They were absolutely adorable getting everything ready. Nothing could spoil their fun!

Turns out--they chased the rain away!  We hung up their homemade HERSHEY'S CAMP BONDFIRE, complete with a rainbow, stars, and fireflies, for good luck and lit a fire of our own:

And then the moment we had waited for all day...

Getting those marshmallows toasted is serious business!

First bite of his first ever Campfire S'more

After all the kids had sticky fingers and chocolaty smiles, Janene and I could finally enjoy a smore for ourselves. YUM!

We couldn't have asked for a better ending to a gray day!
