My little potato turned 7 this past week. I cannot believe that seven years have passed since I first set my eyes on her chubby little cheeks and fiery hair. She has changed so much and come so far in the last seven years, but one thing that hasn't changed is her spunk and zeal for life.

Another thing that hasn't changed is my lackluster attitude towards throwing parties. Here's the thing: I want to love planning parties, and I absolutely love to look at all the ideas for themes and I always have a great time during a party...but all the planning and prepping before hand? I don't find it the least bit enjoyable. I feel bad because I just don't have it in me to hand make decorations, bake and decorate a cake, plan activities and games for the little ones, and come up with cute party favors that all coordinate around the perfect theme. Some mothers live for that stuff...and more power to them. After I read The Happiness Project
a couple of years ago, I had an Aha! Moment. And my mantra became, and still is, "Be Christine." As much as I would love to be an organized, party planning maven, that isn't me. I am a fly by the seat of my pants, shopping hating, live in the moment, cross my fingers and hope for the best kind of gal.
This time around, Ava has invited some friends and we have decided on a circus theme. I got the invites out on time and I made a list of everything that I thought would be fun to do circling around that theme. Today I will be running around gathering up all the supplies to make this party a success. I know it doesn't matter as long as Ava and her guests have fun...but why, oh why do we put all this pressure on ourselves to make a party shine when, to be perfectly honest, the kids would be perfectly happy running around the yard and licking the icing off of a cupcake? Don't get me wrong, I am going to try my best to overcome my poor party planning ways....
But if all of my errands don't get done today, and all the perfect party plans in my head don't come to life--I will still call it a success as long as at the end of the day Ava and her friends have smiles and icing on their faces!

Love it! Good for you throwing a party your way. I love doing the "stuff" but when I didn't or couldn't I bought the decorations at the store, bought a cake from a baker and hired a clown(or Spice Girl or a Teletubbie or Princess lol) to entertain the kids. Either way the memories are the same for the little darlings and that's what matters most :-)
