Today we are happy to have with us: Kristin from An O'Leary Family Adventure
Hi, Kristin! How about you introduce yourself to our readers:
Introduce myself? I find this is easier on the internet rather than in person. I'm so glad this is not an oral presentation. Whew!
Usually I hear mom over one hundred times per day, but I've been called Kristin by friends, Kris by very dear friends, Babe by my husband, and Mrs. O by my students. It's reasonable to say that I have as many job titles as I do names. Currently I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend, who enjoys taking care of a little blog (An O'Leary Family Adventure), cooking for the family, and teaching. Although I'm not a full-time teacher yet, my goal is to land an awesome teaching position with young ones. Most times I learn just as much from them as they do from me. Aside from teaching, I enjoy writing, photography, web design, and singing.
I feel like I'm talking to a sister from another mister! I, Christine, also enjoy writing, photography, and singing! Could we be drinking the same thing too? What's in your cup this morning?
Is there any better way to wake up than with a warm mug filled to the brim with silky smooth coffee and the aroma of hazelnut filling your lungs? Oh...that was supposed to be a simple question?? Okay...hazelnut coffee with skim milk and sugar.
Well there's the difference. I'm a tea drinker--chai tea. I've been jazzing it up with pumpkin spiced creamer these days. It FEELS like fall. Might as well embrace it, right? So tell us about "An O'Leary Family Adventure." How did you come up with the name?
The awesome idea of 'An O'Leary Family Adventure' came quite quickly to my mind. I started this blog about a year ago because my husband, daughter, and I had moved from Atlanta, GA to Virginia Beach, VA. My husband was offered a job in VA and we talked and talked about whether it was the right decision for us, and I mostly wanted to move to explore another piece of the country. Therefore, when we moved I felt as if the blog was a good way to share and track with family and friends back in GA the daily adventures of life here in Virginia.
Well it definitely fits. So tell us, if you could, where should we start? What's the one post you want everyone that comes to your blog to read?
Hmmmmm....
One post? This is a toughie. It's hard to choose one that sums up everything I do. I suppose it'd be the one written for my eighth anniversary this past August (My Life at Eight Years of Marriage). That post truly speaks to the subjects most on my heart: my husband and daughter. It's a post that speaks to the ever growing heart of a mom/wife.
I can't wait to read that one! I've loved what I've seen so far. My first impression of your blog was that it was your space to explore your love of taking pictures, and connecting with others through your writing. You seem to be a truly thoughtful blogger and it shines through in everything from your posts, to your sweet blog design. Is this what you had in mind when you began to blog? Where do you see your blog going and growing to in the future?
You hit the nail right on the head! I'm so thankful somebody else could see what I was trying to get across. When I first began my blog I had in mind what I wanted to do as far as design, but I didn't know how to get it without paying for it. Paying for blog design was never an option for me, plus I enjoy the challenge of learning something new (a great motto: Never tell yourself you can't do something). So I began researching and designing banners and such to use on my blog. Pretty soon my love for blog design grew and now I do it fairly regularly for myself (I like to change things up) and others (pro bono so far).
As far as photography goes, before blogging I would always carry my camera with me everywhere to capture the beauty of this world. I saw blogging as an avenue to share the way I see things and to track the footsteps of my life with my family and friends through these images. Plus, who doesn't like seeing beautiful pictures on a blog? It adds visual interest, which is what I go for. I find adults, especially moms, have very little attention span these days, and pictures are worth a thousand words...so, that's what I try to do.
With that said, of course I see my blog growing into something more than what it is now. The hardest part is getting your name out there, but that's what I'm trying to do now and which is why I'm so thankful for this opportunity. A goal of mine is to eventually have guests posts from people across the world who can share their outlook on life with others. Life is all about the adventure, not just the destination.
You are off to a great start, Kristin. And one more question--our final and favorite one: Tell us, what makes you "More than a Mommy"?
First off, let me just say that the name of your blog is AH-MAH-SING! More Than Mommies. It's too often that mommies forget that they are more than just that. Mommyhood is great and all, but there's so much more to contribute to life. Besides being a mommy, I love sharing my thoughts through words and pictures (is that obvious yet?), seeing the delight on people's faces when they bite into something scrumptious from my kitchen, pretending to be an expert explorer of this earth, and spreading Love to others in every way I can.
Thanks again for allowing me to come say hi during The Sunday Sip! What you do is awesome.
We loved having you, Kristin, and we cannot wait to join you on your adventure! We can't wait to see more from you.
