The Sunday Sip: Fill Up Your Cup with Nancy at Calibamamom

Welcome once again to The Sunday Sip!

I can't wait to introduce you to this week's Sunday Sipper ---If you already know her, get ready to learn a little more and if it's your first time meeting Nancy a.k.a Calibamamom then you are in for a real treat because she is fun, energetic and friendly. Don't believe me?

This picture says it all. Who DOESN'T love a good fist pump on the dance floor?

We'll pause while you grab a drink then come and "sip" with us!

So what's in your cup today, Nancy?

Lemon-Lime seltzer water. No caffeine. No sugar. No calories. Basically, liquid bubbly air…lol.

Tell us a little about yourself:

Hi, I'm Nancy, The Calibamamom, and voice behind A Calibama State of Mind. I'm also the brains (and brawn, too) behind most of the operations at Calibama Productions, where the stage show revolves around The Man and The Beans-- Sugar, Butter, and Sweet Pea.

If you've read any of our past Sunday Sips then you know that this is a question we love to ask because everyone has a story!  Why did you choose “Calibamamom”?

Well, I'm from Alabama originally, and despite residing in California for the last 16+ years, I've retained my Southern accent, "wearing it proudly, like a badge of honor", as The Man says. When our oldest, Sugar Bean, began to talk, she had the most adorable accent--kinda Cali, kinda Bama--and I started referring to her as my little Calibama Kid :-) So, naturally….I'm The Calibamamom.

Will you show us around your place? Let's imagine we've just landed on your blog--what is one post that you want us to read?

Without hesitation, I have to say "90 Days". The inspiration for it was my childhood, growing up with an alcoholic mom. It was by far the hardest for me to put out there, yet definitely the most cathartic. Very real, extremely raw, and utterly shocking. Not for the faint of heart.

This is one of the reasons that I love blogging. It is the space to tell your story. I'm sure that you are helping more people than you know just by sharing yours. Which leads me to our next question:  What was the reason you started to blog? Has your reason changed along the way? And what does the future hold for Calibamamom?

Honestly, I started my blog after stumbling upon Momastery.com through a Facebook share, a few days before my 40th birthday, while wondering wtf I wanted to be when I grew up. I spent several days reading every post on that blog, and came to the realization that I too had a story…well, a lot of stories actually…to tell, and writing might be an excellent way to utilize my Bachelor's Degree in English. What a novel idea, right? Originally, the impetus for beginning the blog was the selfish need to create a place where I shared my thoughts, instead of keeping them trapped in my head, and God willing, reach an audience that might benefit from them in some way. Smiling, laughing, crying, screaming and saying "OMG…I'm not alone" are all welcome responses, and so far the reception has been favorable. I've made a lot more fans than I ever imagined I would! Moving forward into the future, I hope to continue building a following, entertaining my readers and maybe even attract the attention of people who believe my writing is worthy of some monetary compensation. A girl can dream, right?

Sounds like you and I had a very similar "novel idea" for utilizing that good old BA in English ;)

Our final question for you: We know that being a Mommy is rewarding and exciting on its own, but we also know that there is more to every Mommy than her Mommy duties. So, what makes you "More than a Mommy"?

"I enjoy long walks on the beach, midnight dinners atop the Eiffel tower, warm summer rains and receiving random love notes "…..
Oh wait…this isn't an online dating profile is it?! All kidding aside, I really enjoy the outdoors…camping, hiking and fishing with my family. Road trips are a favorite too. Dancing is a passion. Helping others makes me smile all over my face. I am a lover of most animals, although I prefer snakes keep their distance. Spending time with my circle of girlfriends ranks up there with my need for oxygen. Oh, and my life would be empty without attending concerts and music festivals. Music inspires me, and I seriously plan my summers around the Dave Matthews Band Tour dates every year. Been following DMB since they formed in 1991, while I was in college, and their music has literally stitched together the pages of the open book that will eventually become my memoir. Dave is the other man in my life…and THE Man is totally cool with that :-)

Thank you for sharing a bit of your world with us, Nancy!
